Projects

  1. How To Sideload Content on the Oculus Quest and Quest 2:

A step-by-step tutorial covering every aspect of sideloading content to the Oculus Quest and Quest 2. This training was created to meet the expected influx of new users as a result of christmas trends in 2020. On the completion of the course Oculus announced the AppLab platform it was preparing to launch, so I opted to not publish the training. This course was designed from the ground up entirely in Captivate and the buttons were created with Illustrator. Unfortunately, the original files for this project were lost when my computer died.

  2. How to Shape a Synthesizer Voice:

A fully interactive recreation of the standard stages of subtractive synthesis shaping. The user is able to hear the changes able to be made at each stage, starting with the oscillator shape, proceeding to the envelope and filter, and concluding with a sequencer and some basic effects. This training was a challenge for the volume of audio files involved and taught me a good deal about file organization. The course was designed and executed with Storyline360 and the audio was recorded from a Moog Mother 32 into Ableton Live 10.

  3. Bloomsburg University Graduate Student Orientation:

  4. I, alongside Candace Henne, Zachary Mallet, and Brianna Collins, was tasked with creating a new graduate student orientation program that addressed the needs of Bloomsburg Univerisity grad students. We began by surveying the student body to better understand the information that is not well conveyed to students. Through this, we came to the conculsion that many students want to solve problems on their own and would benefit from a reference tool that can function as an orientation but does not gate any of the available information. To answer this, we created a course using Rise to organize and present information, and Storyline 360 to create simulations of complex tasks (such as utilizing the Bloomsburg LMS). As the tech lead, I created two simulations and an interactive campus map for this project. The map was especially challenging considering the level of interaction I wished to include, and I am immensly proud of the results. You can find the map alongside the rest of the course here.

  5. Stargazer's Field Guide

  6. This Storyline Project was designed with Mobile Devices in mind, taking advantage of the breakpoint system. The course acts as field reference guide for first time stargazers, providing instructions for orienting the night sky and finding constellations. I designed all the graphics in Adobe Illustrator. The course can be found here.

  7. Cactus Cowboy: A History Of The Western Genre

  8. This was the final project I created for an academic course. The Storyline document includes three choices of characters and features a linear progression system that allows learners to visualize the chapters of the course from one screen. I was inspired to make this system by some of the board game prototypes I had seen on eLearning Heroes. I created all the graphics for this course in Adobe Illustrator and I utilized Javascript to capture the learners name from an LMS. I recorded the audio in Ableton Live 10. I also included a health system that also provides the opportunity for the learner to regain health by answering a hidden bonus question. The course can accessed here.

Internship: Rocket Central

In the Spring of 2022 I completed my internship with Rocket Central, which is a marketing company owned an operated under the Rock Family of Companies, most publically recognized as Rocket Mortgage. I interned with the Marketing Operations Department, who operates to support education initiatives across the company and manages company-wide marketing initiatives. My responsibilities included creating Storyline templates to incorporate new company branding, creating client-facing eLearning modules describing services offered by the marketing team, and creating eLearning interface prototypes for other staff members. The internship program encouraged taking time to job shadow a variety of roles across the company. I took advantage of this opportunity to learn how different teams interact during high-impact intiatives, and met with a few Instructional Design Professionals across the company (and taught them the cool things you can do with Javascript and Storyline). I found this experience to be useful in gaining confidence in one-on-one meetings and I gained a great deal of confidence in my skills as an instructional designer. I did not like the compensation or the slow pace of work. Below are a few samples of the professional work I have done.

These are two menus that I developed as templates for future use, as well as use in a few projects I had worked on during my employment.

Interaction Prototypes

This is what I came up with when tasked with demonstrating an interaction with two choices. Not enough people show love to the Storyline dials. You can find an interactive version of this prototype here.

This is another use of a dial in a tab-style interaction. This was created as a template for future use. Seriously, I can't get enough of these dials. You can find an interactive version of this prototype here.

This is the same interaction from the previous demo but with a slider to control the content instead. Storyline sliders are also cool and woefully underappreciated. You can find an interactive version of this prototype here.

Completed Interactions

One of my goals during my intership was to get more comfortable creating slides with motion that didn't look forced. I was proud of the amount of motion I was able to include here while still allowing the user to go back through at their own pace. You can find an interactive version of this entire training module here.

This is a practical application of a slider in a learning module, in which it is used to advance through the steps of this overview of the mortgage process. I was able to restrict the learner from advancing before the current narration completes using hotspots and timeline-triggered states. It is worth noting that while I pride myself in my ability to edit and master audio narration, the audio for this project was due to be re-recorded, hence the poor quality. You can find an interactive version of this entire training module here.
